Ive been tinkering with quad mechs recently. I think they have some serious advantages and disadvantages. If you play to their strengths they are great. If not you will be over paying in bv for what you get. Things Ive learned that are critical: 1. Water is your friend. 2. They will be undergunned so you need to make sure the mech stays in optimal range. 3. Oddly enough this type of mech is begging for hardened armor. Combine it with a turret and long range guns for some a seriously hard to kill base of fire. 4. Prone is your friend. Dont ignore it. You can prone in one turn, spend 2 to get up with facing change on turn two and run off. No psr provided the legs are intact. You dont take penalty for firing from prone. That make this basically the ideal strat. Go basically near max distance and go prone. 5. Consider compact engines and compact gyro. 6. An omnimech version carrying battle armor is really nice. Dont carry them the whole way, but it can be a way to get them into combat and then have them get back on if you need armor for the evac.

Finally got the chance finish the video, although listening to it at work leaves me with an urge to paint that I can't quite act on right now. Its all very inspiring, is what I'm saying.

PNT-10K may have been due to lack of double heat sinks at the time, but it can work as part of a Panther lance. 1 PNT-10K hits further than rest of the lance, while PNT-9Rs in the same lance provide bulk of the firepowerr.

Sure, Panther is light and cheap. But would you take one to duel against Pheonix Hawk, Vindicator, Enforcer, Griffin, or Grasshopper? Perhaps a sensible game scenario would be a Panther lance and a faster recon lance going together against 1 heavy lance.

I'm gonna pick a Vulture (Mad Dog) alt configuration S. Energy boat with jump jets is hard to say no to.

As an Ice Hellion and therefore a ranid fan of speed freak light mechs, I dig this. I also like energy heavy load outs because I have a phobia concerning running out of ammo. Seriously I don't know why anyone would prefer any variety of AC/2, the dumbest weapons ever invented in the world of madness that is BattlTech, when you could have an ER large laser or PPC that does real damage instead. Even if you run hot after replacing BB gun ammo with heat sinks you can shoot two turns out of five and do the same damage with an ERLL as a UAC/2 but with punch though power. And did I mention being an Ice Hellion? Which means in the IlClan era I'm happily in Beta Galaxy of the Scorpion Empire with the other descendants of that clan. Which is why it's also called Hellion Galaxy. Because while screeching, high speed, hyper aggressive pack tactics with light mechs may not have been a great idea as a military's entire doctrine it does work out quite well as part of a larger balanced force and that's why the Empire has the Hellions. Who do you think are piloting that full trinary of Star Pythons? I also shamelessly love heavy lasers. So what I'm saying is I'll take one of those production model Star Pythons. Painted blue and white, with orange highlights, please. Edit: I would also LOVE a proper summary of Goliath Scorpion's story from the Wars of Reaving up to the current timeline.

Really, I think the big thing the 5 variant needed was to just replace the pulse lasers with normal ER mediums, and 2 extra tons of LBX ammo.
